Need

The RAI owns a collection of more than 1.5 million of films and videos, covering a large period of Italian contemporary history. In a context of dematerialization of its production chain, the broadcasting group wants to digitize massively these holdings.

• Tests and assessments of the state of preservation of the video & film carriers, 
• Recommendations on preparation phases of the materials,
• Recommendations on the storage for a long-term preservation,
• Consultancy on the definition of selection criterion and prioritization of the materials.

The issues

Initiate a wide-ranging digitization plan, without a preliminary evaluation of the conditions of conservation of the materials.
